Lucas has completed the decorations for a significant Central London art déco refurbishment and restoration project at 1 New Oxford Street.
The former Commonwealth Building has been partly demolished and rebuilt to bring this striking 1930s art déco building up to modern standards for retail and office use, complete with a magnificent new central atrium rising right up from the ground to the ninth floor.
Our decorations team not only decorated throughout the building, including applying specialist coatings to back of house areas, but also applied a lustrous gold metallic finish to the “coffered” ceilings in all the lobbies overlooking the atrium. These have created a dome-like effect to each floor in keeping with the period.
Lucas has a strong reputation for painting and refurbishing period buildings and structures including the Café Royal, the Savoy Hotel and the Cutty Sark. Our 24 week package here reached its smooth finish for the lead contractor Mace. The building has been developed by TH Real Estate.
