Client: The Royal Shakespeare Company
Lucas undertook the prestigious decorations package for the Royal Shakespeare Theatre which has been rebuilt in Stratford-upon-Avon. The contract was managed by the Royal Shakespeare Company's construction manager, Mace.
The world-famous riverside theatre designed by Elisabeth Scott and built in 1932 has been closed since 2007 for the major rebuilding programme. It is due to open again in November 2010 when it will house a new 1,000 seat thrust stage auditorium, the largest of its kind in the world.
The Lucas team brought in specialist access equipment for painting steelwork and timbers in the roof structures to the new theatre and the adjacent Swan Theatre. The team was also responsible for applying suitable finishes for the heritage windows in the original Scott façade and decorating numerous backroom facilities in the theatre complex.
The decoration programme was finished in good time ahead of the full project completion.
